From the desk of Dr. Baskin:
Hi there,
Summer is here, albeit a rainy one. Please use your sun block anyway. Also, hats work great in keeping those harmful UV rays off your skin. Baseball caps are somewhat inadequate as they don’t protect the sides of your face. I can spot a baseball cap wearer from across the room -- center of the face clear, sides spotted and damaged.
So what’s left? Wide brim hats are great, and if you have one you like, great! If a wide brim just won’t do or you like variety, checkout Gap Design Editions on line at gap.com. They offer a collection of very cute bucket hats at a reasonable price. You can support emerging fashion designers and protect yourself at the same time.
Enjoy the summer,
Dr. Baskin |

Interesting facts about Sun & Sun protection!
- Both UVA and UVB are harmful to your skin and contribute to wrinkles, aging skin, age spots and skin cancer.
- UVA is not filtered by glass and comes in through car windows.
- Sun block is more complete protection than sun screen because it physically blocks the harmful rays from being absorbed.
- There is very little difference between SPF 30 and SPF 100. Above 30 is just hype.
- Reapply! Sun protection should be reapplied every 2 hours to really protect the skin. If you have already applied makeup and can’t just smear more sun block every 2 hours, try a mineral make-up and re-dust every 2 hours. Fresh look, protected skin. Good brands are Jane Iredale or Color Science.
